Creating a vision for your future: Intention Statements

One of the things I love about the Calling in “The One” coaching process is that it’s future-focused. Counseling is helpful – and often necessary – for processing trauma or working on mental health issues. But, for the person who’s generally healthy – though maybe feeling a bit stuck, hopeless, or resigned to an unfulfilling set of circumstances – coaching can help launch you into an entirely new life.

In the coaching process, we revisit your past only quickly, to clear away old patterns and beliefs that are no longer serving you. Then, we get busy creating a vision for your future and determining the you that you need to be to create that future.

We work together to write an intention statement, which then becomes your guiding light, your North Star.

I encourage my clients to revisit their intention daily and ask, “What’s one step I can take today to get me closer to this future?”

With a clear intention about the whole future you envision, decision-making is made easier in all areas of life. All you need to do is ask yourself if a given choice will take you closer to or farther from that future.

Plus, with a clear intention about the kind of relationship you desire, you can date with a lot more clarity, as you’ll quickly realize if someone isn’t the right match for you, or if s/he doesn’t treat you the way you envision being treated.

Making a decision based on what’s in alignment with your intention is an empowering choice in itself.

You begin to realize that you have the power to create your own life!
